What is a Tier 4 Student Visa?

A Tier 4 visa is a student visa that allows non-EEA students to study in the UK. To apply for a Tier 4 visa, you must a. have a confirmed offer of a place at a UK university or college, and b. able to show that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay.

What documents do I need to apply for a Tier 4 visa?

How much fund do I need to have to support my visa?

The amount of money you need to study in the UK as an international student varies depending on various factors such as the course you want to study, the length of your course, and where you will be studying. Generally, international students are required to show that they have enough funds to cover their course fees and living expenses during their stay in the UK. As of May 2023, the minimum amount of money you need to show is £1,334 per month if you are studying in London, and £1,023 per month if you are studying outside London. The total amount can be calculated by timing the living cost for the length of the course or nine months plus the remaining tuition fee of the course.

What are the other costs associated for student visa?

You also need to pay visa application fees and healthcare surcharge to cover NHS health services. As of May 2023, the standard application fee is £348, and the healthcare surcharge is £470 per year. You may also need to pay for additional services, such as priority processing or biometric enrolment.

What is a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)?

A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is a unique reference number that your university or college issues once you have been accepted onto a course. You will need this number to apply for a Tier 4 visa. Students from some countries e.g. Bangladesh need to pass the CAS interview conducted by the university. Can I work while I study in the UK?

Yes, as an international student on a Tier 4 visa, you can work part-time while studying in the UK. The amount of hours you are allowed to work depends on the level of your course and the type of institution you are studying at. If you are studying at a university or a publicly funded further education college, you can work up to 20 hours per week during term-time and full-time during vacations. If you are studying at a private college, you can work up to 10 hours per week during term-time and full-time during vacations.
